Children's capacity to agree to psychological research: Knowledge of risks and benefits and voluntariness.Rona Abramovitch, Jonathan L. Freedman, Kate Henry & Michelle Van Brunschot - 1995 - Ethics and Behavior 5 (1):25 – 48.
A series of studies investigated the capacity of children between the ages of 7 and 12 to give free and informed consent to participation in psychological research. Children were reasonably accurate in describing the purpose of studies, but many did not understand the possible benefits or especially the possible risks of participating. In several studies children's consent was not affected by the knowledge that their parents had given their permission or by the parents saying that they would not be upset (...)

  2. Three stages of medical dialogue.Henry Abramovitch & Eliezer Schwartz - 1996 - Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics 17 (2).
The negative consequences of physicians' failure to establish and maintain personal relationships with patients are at the heart of the humanistic crisis in medicine. To resolve this crisis, a new model of doctor-patient interaction is proposed, based on the ideas of Martin Buber's philosophy of dialogue. This model shows how the physican may successfully combine the personal (I-Thou) and impersonal (I-It) aspects of medicine in three stages. These Three Stages of Medical Dialogue include:1. An Initial Personal Meeting stage, which initiates (...)

A Certified Copy: Translating Images in the Eighteenth-Century French Print Market.Tamara Abramovitch - 2022 - Lumen: Selected Proceedings From the Canadian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies 41:33-65.

Empirical examination of the ability of children to consent to clinical research.N. Ondrusek, R. Abramovitch, P. Pencharz & G. Koren - 1998 - Journal of Medical Ethics 24 (3):158-165.
This study examined the quality of children's assent to a clinical trial. In subjects younger than 9 years of age, understanding of most aspects of the study was found to be poor to non-existent. Understanding of procedures was poor in almost all subjects. In addition, voluntariness may have been compromised in many subjects by their belief that failure to complete the study would displease others. If the fact that a child's assent has been obtained is used to justify the exposure (...)
